Patents Awarded

NIR Technologies Inc. was awarded a United States Patent (No.: US 7,711,411 B2; Date of Patent: May 4, 2010) "Method of in-vivo measurement of fat content of a body and apparatus thereof". This is the equivalent to the Canadian Patent (No. 2,404,891), a quick method using Fourier Transform Near-Infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy to determine the body fat content in less than a minute.

NIR Technologies Inc. was awarded an Australian Patent No.: AU 2005241130; Date of Patent: September 9, 2010.  This is the equivalent of the United States Patent (No.: US 7,329,547 B2; Date of Patent: Feb. 12, 2008), a method for the rapid analysis of the fatty acid components present in a fat and/or oil using Fourier Transform Near Infrared (FT-NIR) Spectroscopy.  All calibrations were based on an accurate Gas Chromatographic (GC) analysis with known standards.  Using these calibration matrices, a fat and/or oil sample can be analyzed within minutes without using hazardous chemicals for extraction or esterification that are part of the GC analysis.

The Mississauga News

NIR Technologies Inc. was featured twice by one of Canada's leading business newspapers The Mississauga News.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future, with the advancements in instrumentation and computers, that the NIR technology would become a household appliance just like microwaves to monitor the type of food you eat." says founder and Director of Technology, Hormoz Azizian.

"To be responsive to our  customer's needs is our goal at NIR Technologies Inc.," says Azizian. "The size of our  company reflects our ability to tune into the specific needs and concerns of our customers."

"NIR has just completed an identification study of three non-metallic material (o-rings, greases, and cable insulation) to be presented at the Fifth CNS International Conference on CANDU Maintenance organized by Canadian Nuclear Society"

"Azizian believes that if a simple and direct technique to determine accurately the fat content of the body was developed, the body fat content measurements could become routine tests in health clubs, fitness clubs, and sports."
